Technology

The following international organizations have been contributed to the multiledia technology and I have been involved with:

Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) is an organization defining the standards on mobile data services. It was formed by integration of several groups and forums such as WAP and Wireless Village.

3rd Generation Partner Project (3GPP) defines the 3G wireless infrastructures and services for GSM and GPRS. 3GPP along with OMA has been the leading standard organization that has defined the multimedia wireless standards.

3rd Generation Partner Project 2 (3GPP2) addresses the standards regarding 3G infrastructure and services based on CDMA. 3GPP2 has been active in defining multimedia standards and applications for the CDMA infrastructure.

W3C: Word Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is a group defining the languages and protocols for the Web. Synchronized Multimedia Interactive Language (SMIL) and Scalar Vector Graphic (SVG), are examples of standards defined by W3C are used in multimedia.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) addresses the protocols with respect to internet. IETF has defined several standards such as HTTP, TCP, UDP, MIME, RTP, RTCP, RTSP and SMTP among many others.

MPEG-4 Industry Forum  is an association which educates and facilitates the use of MPEG-4 standard by industry. M4IF members have promoted the use of MPEG-4 video, audio and file format as part of the media types and file format supported in multimedia standards.
